Children’s Center
About the center: The College of Mount St. Joseph believes very strongly in families, and quality child care is essential to many members of the Mount community. The children’s center provides part-time and full day care for children of Mount students while they are attending class, studying or participating in class related activities off campus such as clinical, field placements or student teaching. While care for children of students is the primary focus of the center, care is also available to faculty and staff on a limited basis when spaces are available. The center is not for drop-in care, as registration must be completed prior to each semester for care. Care is available for children 3 months to 5 years of age.

Mission Statement: In keeping with the mission of the College to embrace the integration of life and learning, the Children's Center provides quality child care to parents who are pursuing a college education. While parents are in class, studying or doing off-campus fieldwork, the Center provides a safe and stimulating environment for their children. The Children's Center is designed to meet the developmental needs of each child in a safe, healthy environment. Activities and materials are carefully selected to correspond with each child's level of development, and to provide challenge without frustration. Through its programming, the Center strives to meet each child's emotional, social, cognitive, creative, and physical needs. Guidance in the Center is gentle and non-invasive. Positive approaches are used to help the children behave constructively. The staff will help each child take steps toward responsible self-direction. Fundamental to the process is the child's feelings about himself or herself. Every child should feel accepted and successful.
Licensing: The Children’s Center is approved and licensed by the State of Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The center also has a two-star rating as part of the Step Up to Quality program (SUTQ). This is a voluntary quality rating system for childcare programs. The goal is to promote school readiness by improving the quality of early care and education for all children. Fore more information on SUTQ, please see the linked page or go to www.stepuptoquality.org.
Teachers: All staff are professionally trained and hold current certificates in CPR, First Aid, Prevention of Communicable Diseases, and Recognition of Child Abuse and Neglect. The center also utilizes work-study students from the College for extra help in the classrooms and for teachers' breaks.
