Biography: Dr. Stewart is the chair of the Department of Sociology & Criminology and an assistant professor. She received her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, with focuses in law & society as well as cross-cultural studies from Indiana University. Also from Indiana University, she received her B.A. Criminal Justice, with honors, including minors in african studies & art and archaeology, which integrated studies abroad in South Africa and Greece.
Professor Stewart's current research agenda focuses on crisis intervention teams (CIT), a police program designed to help police officers respond to incidents involving persons with mental illness.
Outside of the classroom, Dr. Stewart enjoys kayaking, reading, playing fetch with her two dogs, gardening, and cooking gourmet meals for her family. She also enjoys reading historical fiction and going on vacation to historical sites.
