Are you using the G.I. Bill?
I am using Chapter 31 a bill specifically for Disabled Veterans
To what degree does the GI Bills cover your school expenses?
It covers all my tuition and fees and allows me to purchase books for school.
What prompted you to return to school?
Nursing was a calling to me when I got out of the military. Plus, I wanted to help others like myself.
Was adjusting to campus culture a challenge after military life?
At first it was difficult. I didn’t know how I would fit in. I was older than most of the kids in my classes but I look young so that helped out. Once I got into a routine it was like military life without getting up early for early formation.
What has your experience been like at the Mount?
Wonderful actually, I am a transfer student and that was a small school but this school is even smaller and more like a second family. I probably get at least three to four hellos before I get to class from faculty and staff.
What advice do you have for veterans returning to school?
Follow your dreams, this is the only country where you get a chance to completely start over and become something better, someone who can make a difference in the world.
How has your military experience made you a better student?
Now I am way more focused. I have lived life and now have a better perspective on life.
Additional Comments?
To any veterans thinking about school, go for it. It can change your whole life.

Are you using the G.I. Bill?
Yes.
To what degree does the GI Bill cover your school expenses?
The GI Bill covers about 90% but the Mount’s Yellow Ribbon Program covers the remaining 10%.
What prompted you to return to school?
To attain the skills required to be successful in today’s job market.
Was adjusting to campus culture a challenge after military life?
Not really. The Mount’s small community atmosphere is idle for transitioning veterans.
What has your experience been like at the Mount?
Wonderful. I enjoy the small classes with more personal attention from professors. At the Mount, you are a person; not just a number.
What advice do you have for veterans returning to school?
As veterans, we have endless opportunity for success in the civilian world. The various chapters of the GI Bill provide every vet with an education plan that is right for them. We have earned our benefits; know what they are and take advantage of them.
How has your military experience made you a better student?
The Marine Corps taught me that there was nothing that I could not do when I apply myself.
