The refracted brilliance of stained glass, the art work of Mount students and mosaics grace the magnificent Mater Dei Chapel. The annual celebratory baccalaureate mass for graduates is held in the chapel in the spring. Seating up to 800 guests, the chapel also hosts liturgies, religious performances, ecumenical services, and weddings.
Wedding Guidelines for Mater Dei Chapel
Weddings at the Mater Dei Chapel are by exception, since the usual place for a Catholic wedding is your parish church. All persons using the Mater Dei Chapel must have special permission from their pastor.
In order to be married at the Mater Dei Chapel, either one or both parties should be a practicing Catholic and fit one of the categories below:
- an alumni of the college
- a current student at the college
- a faculty or staff member of the college or their children
Since the Mater Dei Chapel is not a parish church, no weddings are held during the penitential seasons of Advent or Lent. The usual times for weddings are during ordinary time or during the Easter or Christmas season but not on the Holy Days of the triduum, Palm Sunday, Christmas or New Year's. The Archdiocese of Cincinnati requires a six-month preparation period for all marriages.
There is a cost of $500.00 for use of the Mater Dei Chapel. A deposit of $250.00 should be received at the time of reservation. This cost includes use of the chapel for the ceremony, as well as the rehearsal. The use of a room (based on availability) for a bridal dressing room is included in the rental cost. Please contact the Director of Mission and Ministry at (513) 244-4844 to reserve the Mater Dei Chapel for weddings.
There is no food, drink or smoking permitted in the Chapel. The buildings of the College are also smoke free environments.
