semester starting with a bang!

so even though my summer seemed to end a lot faster that i had expected, this semester has been awesome! i've been so busy but its been an amazing busy. i'm taking 19 credit hours this semester. that includes painting, lettering, capstone, pre-thesis, digital photography, sociology, and applied leadership. what's really cool about applied leadership is that it is focused on student development. i am amongst a small group of selected students to work as peer leaders for the first time students of the school. this means that not only am i getting credit hours for this applied leadership course but i am also receiving a stipend for the peer leader position. its really cool! i have quite a few other paying positions on campus. in addition to being a peer leader and this blogging position, i also work as a campus activities board publicity co-chair, admissions office caller, phonathon caller, and an activity assistant at the bayley place. on top to these classes and jobs, i also am a FiSH leader, project excel student ambassador,  and a campus ambassador this semester.

what's so amazing is that of all of this, i have no classes or work sessions on fridays. that doesn't mean, though, that i don't work on fridays. i still take that whole day to update my tutors on my school week, meet with different instructors and such for advising and also to complete any work that i would otherwise do on the weekends.

so while my schedule is busy, i still have my weekends for a bit more free time, even though i do end up extending my friday work sessions during the weekends. i haven't had too many cases at all of procrastination this semester so lets hope it says that way and just keeps improving!

Studentry!

William Strunk was a writing teacher in a small university that wasn’t famous until he taught a talented writer named E.B. White (Stuart Little, Charlotte’s Web). He once traveled downtown in his local city to challenge the local Alumni News. Professor Strunk despised the phrase student body, and insisted that his own word, studentry, should be the replacement.

However, I think studentry sounds more like something you do than something you are!

Well if studentry is indeed something you do, we do a lot of studentry at the Mount! Did you know that we have nearly 30 major clubs and organizations here at the Mount? Everything from planning groups like our beloved CAB (Campus Activities Board) to the MSJ Ski and Snowboarding Club… trust me there’s tons to do on campus! I’m already involved with the Creative and Performing Arts Club, but this year, there’s a ton more to do!

This year I’m gonna try to be more involved with SPS (Student Photographic Society). I’ve heard there’s some pretty amazing stuff going on in there this year! SPS always has (and this year is noooo different!) a ton of art shows up and down Delhi Pike and around the area where we proudly display our work, and we often put some of it up for sale. We’re going to have to see this year… This might be the year I put some work up. It’s very difficult for me to let go of a piece of artwork like that. Generally once you sell a copy of a picture, you’re not allowed to print that picture again in the dark room. So you sell it and that picture and all the work you put into it is gone. But this year I’m taking a more advanced photography class, I have a better digital camera, a better film camera, and hopefully more time to spend shooting great pictures!

I’m also joining our very fun Nippon Enthusiasts and Knowledgeable Otaku (NEKO) club, which is a Japanese culture club. We’re big fans of Anime and Manga, and we even got a table at our local anime convention this year! Should be a blast!

Anyway, folks, the pile of homework on my desk is complaining that it hasn’t been done! I’ll talk to you all soon!
